The University of British Columbia will decide this fall on whether to upgrade its current Department of Economics into a new “Vancouver School of Economics.”
According to the Ubyssey, the proposed Vancouver School of Economics will completely revolutionize and expand the economics program at UBC, to “create a globally recognized brand that will attract students from across Canada and the world to graduate and undergraduate programs.” The VSE plan could very well be following the model established by renown London School of Economics (LSE), a subsidiary of the University of London.
Notable highlights of the proposed VSE include new courses, smaller class sizes, additional faculty members, and a new direct-entry Bachelor of International Economics (BIE), in partnership with UBC’s Sauder School of Business.
