UBC students propose pre-paid parking to prevent drunk driving

Dec 19 2017, 4:44 pm

UBC economics students Leighton Hay and Curtis Kuznecov have written an open letter to Vancouver City Council that proposes the City to set aside prepaid parking spots for drunk drivers.

The idea is modelled after a similar program in Seattle after the two friends drove to Seattle to watch a NFL Seahawks game. The program allows those that are still drunk or hung-over to pre-pay their parking spot throughout the night and morning hours.

This will encourage partiers and drinkers to pick up their car only when they are sober as they no longer have to face the risk of getting their car ticketed or towed.

Vancouver City Councillor Geoff Meggs will be bring this idea to City Council today to potentially study its feasibility.
