UBC students sing Beach Boys parody for Yes vote in transit plebiscite (VIDEO)

Student members of the University of British Columbia’s A Cappella Club have lent their voices to support the ‘Yes’ vote in Metro Vancouver’s transit plebiscite.

The video of the student club members on an articulated bus singing a transit-themed parody of the Beach Boys’ “I Get Around” song was posted onto the UBC Alma Mater Student Society’s YouTube page on Monday.

The student society is among the main supporters of the official ‘Yes’ campaign led by local businesses and organizations.

If the referendum is successful, UBC students will benefit heavily from the Mayors’ Council $7.5 billion transit improvements.

This particularly includes an underground extension of the Millennium Line under Broadway to Arbutus and eventually UBC.

A full extension to the campus will mean students and other commuters will be able to travel from Commercial-Broadway Station to UBC in about 20 minutes, in contrast to the existing 50 minutes during rush hour on the overcrowded 99 B-Line.

For travel from Coquitlam City Centre to UBC, passengers will even be able to complete the journey in less than an hour with a seamless one-train ride requiring no transfers (via Evergreen and Millennium).

Students at the province’s largest post-secondary institution will also benefit from other improved services such as increased frequency along major routes, 80 per cent more night bus service, a third SeaBus during regular service, and a B-Line route running on 41st Avenue from UBC to Joyce-Collingwood Station.
