UBC RCMP to block access to 7,000+ person Wreck Beach full moon party

Dec 19 2017, 6:50 pm

UBC RCMP officers will be blocking access to the four marked trails to the clothing optional Wreck Beach on the night of Friday, June 13 in an effort to stop a planned ‘full moon’ partythat could see thousands in attendance.

According to The Province, the party is organized by DJ Bjorn, a Swedish DJ now based in Vancouver, and it has a ‘confirmed’ guest list of 7,000+ on its Facebook event page. The location is not included on the event page and will be added near the event date, but commentators have speculated that it will occur at Wreck Beach – down below at the base of UBC’s steep cliffs.

In May, UBC RCMP announced that they would be undergoing regular patrols of Wreck Beach to crack down on illegal activity, with a focus on those who sell drugs and alcohol.

This includes those who access the beach after hours, as Metro Vancouver regional district Parks bylaws do not permit anyone to be at the beach after sunset.

Both UBC RCMP officers and regional district park rangers will be on site during that evening. Ticketing and arrests are a possibility.
