140-square-foot "nano suites" on display for students at UBC

UBC announced they were planning on implementing micro apartments to solve the housing crunch back in June of 2015, and now students are getting their first look. A full-sized replica of a 140-square-foot “Nano suite” is on display in the nest at the AMS building.

The suites will feature a tiny kitchen, a bed that folds up into a desk, and a full-sized bathroom.

The university says 70 suites will be constructed in the new Gage South Student Residence that’s slated for completion in 2019. The suites will cost anywhere from $675 to $695 per month, will be completely furnished, and students will have access to high-speed internet as well as basic cable.

These micro apartments are slated to be the first of their kind on campus.
