Woman in hospital following alleged assault on UBC campus

A woman has been transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries following an alleged assault at UBC, according to the University RCMP Detachment.

The alleged assault occurred on Tuesday October 4, when members of the University’s RCMP were called to UBC’s student residence in the 2500 block West Mall. The officers received reports that a male suspect was being held down by another male pending the arrival of the authorities.

According to a press release, the police are in the preliminary stages of their investigation, but say that it appears that the male was apprehended following the alleged assault of a woman.

The woman has been transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the scene has been secured by investigators. The man is currently in police custody.

The RCMP also confirmed that there is currently no risk to the public.

University RCMP, with support from E Division Major Crime, are continuing their investigation.
