There’s a new voice coming to Vancouver Canucks television broadcasts this season.
Recently retired NHL defenceman Tyson Barrie is joining the Sportsnet broadcast team for Canucks home games in the 2025-26 season.
A Rogers spokesperson has confirmed to Daily Hive that Barrie will be a part of Sportsnet’s intermission panel. Sportsnet previously confirmed that the usual regional broadcast team of John Shorthouse, Dave Tomlinson, Ray Ferraro, and Dan Murphy are all returning this season.
A native of Victoria, B.C., Barrie played for five NHL teams throughout his NHL career, including three in Canada. He never suited up for the Canucks, though that nearly became a reality for him in 2019.
âGrowing up on Vancouver Island, I always thought it would be special to finish my career with the Canucks,â Barrie said through a Canucks press release. âWhile my playing days ended elsewhere, Iâm grateful for the chance to start this new chapter with a great organization so close to home.”
Although he is now out of the NHL, Barrie doesn’t have to look hard to find familiar faces on this Canucks team.
The 34-year-old was recently teammates with new Canucks winger Evander Kane. Both players, who were selected in the 2009 NHL draft, were teammates from 2021 to 2023 with the Edmonton Oilers.
Barrie announced his retirement from the NHL in August, following a season in which he played with the Calgary Flames and their AHL affiliate.
