Police investigate two shootings in Surrey in a single day

Dec 19 2017, 9:48 pm

Police in Surrey believe two shooting incidents that occurred approximately 17 hours apart on Monday may be connected to each other.

The first incident occurred at 2:20 a.m. in the 7500 block of 135 Street just outside Costco and the Bombay Banquet Hall. Shots were fired in the area and one man incurred non-life threatening gunshot wounds as a result.

It is believed that the incident was targeted, and the victim injured in the shooting is known to police.

Later in the day just before 8 p.m., there was another shooting involving two vehicles in the 7200 block of 152 Street in the Newton neighbourhood. The occupants of a suspect vehicle fired shots at the intended target vehicle, which has since been located by police.

None of the occupants in the target vehicle incurred gunshot wounds, but one male did sustain minor injuries from the vehicle’s glass fragments. The suspect vehicle fled from the scene shortly after the incident.

“Both shootings that occurred on May 9 are not believed to be related to the most recent Surrey conflict,” reads a release by RCMP. “Surrey RCMP is liaising with the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU-BC) and other policing partners to determine if there are links to other conflicts in the region.”

Anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers’ anonymous hotline at 1-800-222-8477.
