Officers were called to Clover Point in Victoria after two Richmond residents, both young men 20 years of age, drove their luxury cars off the end of the point toward the ocean.

When emergency services arrived shortly after 1 a.m. on April 17, they found a 2015 Ford Mustang and a 2014 Infinity Q50 with heavy damage that had driven off the road, crashing 40 ft. below. Police estimate damage to the vehicles is upwards of $70,000.

Witnesses at the scene said both vehicles appeared to be speeding towards the turnaround and failed to stop or turn in time, propelling the cars straight off the end.

Impairment does not appear to be the cause of the crash, but speed has been ruled a factor.

The two Richmond men did not sustain injuries but were fined for driving with undue care and attention. The Victoria Fire Department (VFD) secured the vehicles and they were towed out. A small amount of fuel was spilled on the rocks and Emergency BC was notified of the cleanup efforts.
