Two pedestrians killed in separate vehicle accidents in Coquitlam, Richmond

Two pedestrians were killed in separate vehicle accidents in Coquitlam and Richmond last night, with poor visibility from the rainstorm as likely factors in both incidents.

The incident in Coquitlam at 10 p.m. was the first to occur and resulted in the death of a nearby pedestrian on Como Lake Avenue near Robinson Street. Two vehicles were involved in the collision, with one of the vehicles also hitting and fatally wounding the pedestrian.

The identity of the victim is not known and as of this morning Coquitlam RCMP were still making attempts to contact the next of kin.

A second incident happened in Richmond just after 10 p.m. where a 75-year-old woman was struck and killed by a single car. At the time, she was attempting to cross the road at Westminster Highway near Gilbert Road.

Both incidents led to prolonged road closures within the immediate vicinity to allow police to conduct their investigations to the causes of the fatal incidents.

Drivers are warned to exercise caution and drive slowly on wet roads and during periods of poor visibility.
