Tsawwassen Mills is throwing a family-friendly LEGO® block party on Canada Day

Jun 22 2018, 7:14 am

From Canada Day long weekend all the way through to July 8th, you and your family enjoy a LEGO block party alongside your patriotic shopping spree.

Tsawwassen Mills understands your simultaneous need for retail therapy and “connecting” (get it?) with young minds as they architect a grand LEGO event that runs concurrently with a long-weekend sale at more than 60 retailers.

The mall’s LEGO Block Party spans 10 days of interactive play and inspiring displays of LEGO engineering. In the spirit of Canada Day, the first weekend’s inaugural mega-build is a patriotic ode to the Canadian flag, followed by the Tsawwassen Mills artwork-inspired build the following weekend.

There will be a huge play space to forge your own creations and even a safe matted area equipped with bigger LEGO blocks designed for curious toddlers. There will be no shortage of inspiration for your own creations as this block party is immersed in impressive LEGO models from LEGO Canada and other creations from local LEGO clubs.

Plus, kids can participate in mini-building contests on weekends, for fun LEGO giveaways.

Research shows that construction play is integral in building STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) skills, so this afternoon at a mall could surprisingly make a good foundation in building your child’s spatial and problem-solving chops. Since it’s a party, expect to share the space in cooperative LEGO building which can help children foster connections with others, block by block.

Just drop by Friday, June 29 to Sunday, July 8, from noon to 6 p.m. at Promo Court inside Entry 3 of Tsawwassen Mills to experience the LEGO extravaganza. Be ready to paint the town as well as there will also be a participatory mural wall for those inclined to make their stamp.

$500 gift card giveaway

Post photos or it didn’t happen, amirite? This LEGO Block Party is sure to be a visual treat and a perfect photo op. Since we know you’re going to do it anyway, it doesn’t hurt that there will be a contest for sharing your photos or selfies with your favourite LEGO structure on social media for a chance to win a $500 Tsawwassen Mills gift card. Just make sure to tag @TsawwassenMills (Check your spelling! It’s a tricky name) and use the hashtag #TMillsLEGOfun with your corresponding photos and you will be entered in the draw.

Mini building contests for little builders

A little competition doesn’t hurt anybody, especially little competitors who will vie for fun LEGO prizes and giveaways at the LEGO Block Party. Make sure to sign up your future architects and engineers on the following weekends: June 30 -July 2, and July 7 – 8. There will be a contest hourly from noon to 4 p.m. on those dates and the sign-up is on a first come, first served basis.

Best of all, there are no age restrictions; this one’s for both the young and the young-at-heart.

Retail therapy (that’s actually therapeutic)

When people say “treat yourself,” there is usually a financial ramification that feels like self-inflicted punishment in hindsight. This Canada Day long weekend, Tsawwassen Mills wants you to really treat yourself to great deals with their free Long Weekend Savings Booklet, so you can stack deals on deals on deals.

Over 60 retailers at Tsawwassen Mills are participating including Saks OFF 5th, The Oulet by Harry Rosen, Aldo, Banana Republic Factory Store, Levi’s, Lole, and PUMA Outlet Store. The booklet also includes food discounts at participating restaurants so you can revive yourself during this endurance-testing shopping spree.

You can chart your course and come prepared by downloading the savings booklet. You can also pick one up at Guest Services at Tsawwassen Mills.

Other than the Block Party, Tsawwassen Mills has a kids’ play area, West 49 skate park, a bowling alley and nearly 200 stores (premium fashion brands, outlets and first-to-market retailers), dining and entertainment options. So, go ahead and feel no guilt going to the mall on Canada Day with your family.
