BC NDP leader and MLA for Vancouver-Kingsway has established a trust fund for the 19-month-old-girl who was injured from yesterday’s stabbing attack that left her grandma dead.

Vancouver Police has charged 33-year old Ka Chi David Siu for second degree murder of his 63-year old mother Yin Nor Hsao and attempted murder of his infant niece.

Just after 10:30 a.m. on Monday, police received a 9-1-1 call regarding a small child crying, a man yelling, and blood on the walls in the hall of an apartment building at 3319 Kingsway (near Joyce Street).

The officers who arrived to investigate were confronted by a man with a knife. He was challenged by police who drew their firearms and then shot the man. He remains under guard in hospital.

Yin Nor Hsao was found at her apartment with multiple injuries and later declared dead at the scene.

The infant girl was taken to Children’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries that could potentially be life altering. Earlier that morning, before the incident occurred, her parents did their normal routine by dropping her off at grandma’s apartment prior to going to work.

The VPD Homicide Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder of the woman in the apartment. The IIO is conducting the investigation regarding the police involved shooting.

Dix has opened a trust fund for the girl at Community Savings Credit Union. The fund is called “The Kingsway Child Fund.”

The MLA has also donated $1,000 of his own personal funds to assist the girl.
