Premier-elect and Conservative Party of B.C. leader Lorne Doerkson distanced himself from associations with U.S. President Donald Trump while on the campaign trail, but that hasn’t stopped Trump from chiming in on the provincial election results.
Yesterday, we published a story about how Trump and U.S. Senator Ted Cruz both acknowledged the historic election win for the Conservatives over the weekend.
Today, Trump was a little bit more direct with another congratulatory post on Truth Social, linking to a Bloomberg article and calling the election a “Big Victory,” adding that Conservatives are “moving strong in Canada!”
Bloomberg called now-resigned BC NDP leader David Eby’s election result an “embarrassing defeat.”
“He has faced backlash for calling the election two years early. Eby’s defeat means almost no left-wing premiers remain in power across Canada apart from the NDP’s Wab Kinew in Manitoba,” Bloomberg’s Thomas Seal reported.
Like Trump’s previous Truth Social post, in which he reshared a different news story about the Conservative victory, he received thousands of likes and lots of replies. Most of the replies were AI-generated images of Trump, like this:
But there were some replies commenting on the victory.
“Conservatives are moving strong in Canada. President Trump is right to celebrate the win,” one reply said.
Another Trump follower responded, “Common sense is crossing the border faster than Trudeau’s old fan club can say ‘carbon tax.’ Congrats Lorne Doerkson!”
It wasn’t all positive.
Someone not happy with Trump’s post said, “Stop trying to interfere with Canadian politics. They don’t want you. For that matter, we don’t want you either.”
One of Eby’s main campaign sticking points was suggesting that the Conservatives would bring Trump-style politics to Canada. It remains to be seen if that accusation rings true.
Conservative stance on Trump during B.C. election campaign

On Sept. 25, 2026, the Conservatives posted a news release about Trump, with the headline, “Standing up to Trump takes action, not press releases,” in an attack on Eby.
“You don’t stop a bully with tough talk three weeks before an election. You stop a bully by being strong enough that you don’t need him,” Doerkson said in the press release.
A few days later, on Sept. 29, the Conservatives issued another release, promising to remove provincial sales tax at the till on Canadian beer, wine, and spirits.
“British Columbia’s wineries, breweries, and distilleries support more than 20,000 good jobs in communities across our province. We can’t let Donald Trump’s bullying shut them down,” Doerkson said in the release.
We have reached out to the Conservatives for comment on Trump’s congratulatory post and will update this story when we hear back.
Trump has a busy time ahead of him with the U.S. midterm elections taking place on Nov. 3.
