TransLink suing City of Vancouver for Burrard Bridge bus tire damage

TransLink is pursuing the City of Vancouver for the costs incurred for March’s incidents of bus tire bursts on the Burrard Street Bridge while repairs were made.

Documents filed in B.C. Provincial Court on September 22 indicate the transportation authority is suing the municipal government and the private construction contractor for $25,256 to cover all extra costs incurred, according to a report in 24 Hours.

At the time, the bridge deck was undergoing extensive joint replacements and improperly protruding anchor bolts caused damage to tires.

TransLink says tires on 20 buses were damaged and it caused a major, costly multi-day detour to the Granville Street Bridge. Normal service on bus routes that used the Burrard Street Bridge resumed after work was done to properly secure the anchor bolts.
