Inside TransLink's festive Rudolph the red-nosed Christmas bus (VIDEO)
It would be an understatement to say that the maintenance staff at TransLink’s bus company are very serious about the holidays.
A new video by TransLink provides a further glimpse at the very special Reindeer Bus for the 2018 Christmas season.
And as it turns out, this year’s bus has received some big festive upgrades.
The bus has improved Christmas lights, larger and more detailed front antlers, and even an inflatable Santa Clause inside. All of this is in addition to the Christmas lights that adorn the outside of the bus from top to bottom, holiday carols, lights, and garland inside the vehicle.
The antlers were manufactured out of fibreglass by staff in the bus depot, and a buoy is used to create Rudolph’s red nose.
This continues a decades-long tradition of staff volunteering their time and decorations to add a holiday touch to the bus every season, beginning in 1985 when staff first participated in a toy charity drive.
Reindeer Bus, vehicle 9543, will be operating on various routes within Vancouver, such as the No. 15 Cambie/Olympic Village Station, 25 UBC/Brentwood Town Centre Station, 50 Waterfront Station/False Creek South, 32 Dunbar/Downtown, and 41 UBC/Joyce-Collingwood Station.
A second bus, a smaller community shuttle, dubbed the Reindeer Shuttle, will be operating soon on the Tri-Cities routes with decorations.
