The best way to get to FIFA Fan Festival Vancouver: TransLink's new very frequent, non-stop express bus connects SkyTrain to PNE

Jun 12 2026, 3:15 am

Each year during the PNE Fair, TransLink operates a special shuttle bus service connecting SkyTrain stations with the fairgrounds at Hastings Park.

For the annual fair, the shuttle bus route runs along Renfrew Street between the Expo Line’s 29th Avenue Station and the Pacific Coliseum entrance to Hastings Park, with stops at the Millennium Line’s Renfrew Station and all local bus stops along the corridor. The service typically operates every 15 minutes on fair days.

However, to meet the transportation demands of the free FIFA World Cup Fan Festival at the PNE fairgrounds, TransLink has gone far beyond simply replicating its traditional fairgrounds shuttle bus service, introducing a significantly enhanced operation for FIFA World Cup fans travelling from across Metro Vancouver. The fan festival has a capacity for 25,000 attendees per day.

The public transit authority has launched a temporary new bus route — the No. 11 FIFA Fan Festival Express — which follows the same Renfrew Street corridor between 29th Avenue Station and the Pacific Coliseum entrance. Unlike the fair shuttle, this FIFA Fan Fest service functions as a true express bus route with very high capacity and reliability, and it makes just a single intermediate stop at Renfrew Station. No other local bus stops are served along the approximately six-km-long route.

The service is operated using high-capacity, 60-ft-long, three-door articulated buses.

End-to-end travel time on the No. 11 is approximately 15 minutes. Buses operate every five minutes, beginning two hours before the fan festival gates open each day and continuing until two hours after closing. The route is only in service on the 28 days when the FIFA Fan Festival is operating over the 39-day tournament period.

Very extensive FIFA World Cup-branded wayfinding and instructional signage has been installed at 29th Avenue Station, Renfrew Station, and along the Renfrew Street side of Hastings Park to help passengers navigate the route and the broader public transit network.

FIFA World Cup volunteers, along with Transit Security personnel and Transit Police officers, have also been deployed at all three bus stop locations to assist passengers and support public safety.

Extensive signage and wayfinding have been installed at the bus loop outside the Pacific Coliseum, which has been upgraded to accommodate multiple articulated buses simultaneously. A lengthy queuing area has also been established near the Pacific Coliseum entrance to better manage potential surges in passengers, particularly following the screening of high-profile matches later in the day.

On the fan festival’s opening day, the operation appeared to run like clockwork, with buses cycling efficiently through the Pacific Coliseum bus bays and the entire bus route functioning as a well-oiled machine. The frequency, capacity, and overall level of service far exceeded what many regular Metro Vancouver public transit riders are accustomed to experiencing on a typical bus route, seemingly exceeding even the region’s busiest bus route, the 99 B-Line.

Following the South Korea versus Czech Republic match in the evening, buses moved through the Pacific Coliseum bus bays with impressive efficiency, with arriving buses pulling in almost immediately after departing buses left. Along Renfrew Street, roughly a dozen empty articulated buses were staged and ready to transport fans home just before the fan festival’s closing time.
