A key road in New Westminster has reopened after it was closed for several hours this morning because of a train derailment.

The New Westminster Police Department alerted the public about the closure via social media just after 7 a.m.

The force said the derailment was “minor” but that the road would be closed for at least a few more hours.

Drivers stuck because of the derailment who weren’t able to turn around had wait until the road was clear to get out, it added.

Luckily the road reopened after the derailment was cleared around 10 am. Traffic is now moving normally along Front Street.
