When stopping at Revolver for your afternoon coffee on July 26, don’t hesitate to sit down and get creative with Lego.

A unique pop-up workshop is coming to the Gastown coffee shop. Titled “Building a Community Brick by Brick,” the event strives to reconnect adults with toys, particularly Lego, for creative growth.

“Nostalgia can be used as a creative tool,” explained local photographer Blake Powell.

Powell said that toys such as Lego allow for creative growth, no matter what age.

“Adults like this sort of thing because there’s more and more adults who go to animated movies and kids movies,” he said.

A year ago, Powell was a music producer and faced a creativity block which gave him having trouble creating. Purchasing a box of Lego was something he’d always wanted to do again, and upon doing so he discovered his interest in toy photography.

Powell then went on to pursue social media marketing as a result of his love for toy photography.

“I’ve always wanted to have a finger in different creative outlets,” he said.

Currently, he’s involved with music production, graphic design and photography.

Partnering with George Giannakos, who showed interest in the idea, Powell will host the workshop in hopes of providing an outside-the-box experience for adults.

“It’s really utilizing creativity,” said Powell. “Exercising your mind in a creative fashion has a lot of benefit. You’re outside the box, you’re going to discover new things.”

The admission price is $15 for a Lego mini figure and set pieces, a coffee, and a space to create your scene. The event will have limited space, and those looking to attend are asked to email [email protected] to purchase tickets.
