Torrential rain causes flash flooding in Vancouver (PHOTOS, VIDEOS)
After being spoiled by weeks of warm weather and sunshine, Metro Vancouverites were taken by surprise today when thunderstorms with torrential rain led to localized flash flooding in certain low lying areas and where the drainage system could not handle the sudden accumulation volumes.
Throughout the day within the City of Vancouver, the local fire department and municipal waterworks crews have been attending to dozens of flooding and storm drain backups. Some residential basements were also reportedly flooded.
At the various Car Free Day festivals across the city, streets were not only car free but also people free at times.
