Toronto Raptors sign Brandon Ingram to massive $120 million contract

The Toronto Raptors are keeping their newest trade piece around for the long term.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Raptors have inked Brandon Ingram to a contract extension worth $120 million over three years.

The deal includes a player option in 2027-28, meaning Ingram can hit free agency after two years if he chooses or re-up in Toronto for a more expensive deal.
Ingram was acquired last week in a deal with the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for Kelly Olynyk, Bruce Brown, a first-round draft pick, and a second-round draft pick.
The 6-foot-8 forward averaged 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.2 assists in 18 games with New Orleans this season.
Ingram won the NBA’s Most Improved Player Award in 2019-20, a year in which he made his first and, to date, only appearance in the NBA All-Star Game.
“Scottie Barnes is 23, Immanuel Quickley is 25, RJ Barrett is 24, Brandon is still just 27, so I think even from that perspective, it’s a young core. We’ll continue the rebuild, I think this is a progress. No change in progress or timeline,” Raptors general manager Bobby Webster said last week following his acquisition.
Webster also added that a contract extension was always part of the plan in the team acquiring Ingram.
“We wouldn’t do the deal unless we felt there was a comfort level with what he was looking for, what we were able to offer, an interest level in coming to Toronto. Hopefully we can get something done. Like when we traded for Jakob Poeltl, it enables us to get the player in the system and for them to get a feel for us, we get a feel for them,” Webster added.
Ingram is currently sidelined with an ankle injury and hasn’t played since December 7. His Raptors debut date has yet to be announced.
