Toronto Blue Jays make all kinds of ugly playoff history in blowout loss

The good news for the Toronto Blue Jays: they’re in the midst of a historic playoff series.

The bad news: they’re on the wrong side of it.

In Game 2 of their American League Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners, the Blue Jays were hoping to even the series up at home before heading on the road for up to three away games.

But the Blue Jays were down 3-0 before even getting a single out, and things didn’t exactly get much better from there.

Sure, Toronto did even up the score by the second inning, but for the second game in a row, their bats fell cold once they got to the second time through the order.

Toronto gave up a pair of three-run home runs on the day, the first time in franchise history they’ve pulled off that unfortunate feat in the playoffs, per Sportsnet Stats.

One of those home runs came of the bat of Jorge Polanco, who also hit a home run for the Mariners on Sunday night.

The final score on the day was 10-3, with Toronto seeing their bullpen fall apart once Trey Yesavage was pulled in the fifth inning.

The Blue Jays now face some more ugly history against them, as teams historically have been 3-for-25 while losing the first two games at home in a seven-game playoff series.

If the Blue Jays have any hopes of advancing in the series, it might just take a historic effort to turn things around.
