Everyone's making the same joke after Toronto Blue Jays trade for Bieber

The newest member of the Toronto Blue Jays might’ve already been a big star, but he’s set to reach a whole new level of fame in Canada.

On Thursday morning, the Jays made a move with the Cleveland Guardians for 2020 Cy Young-winner Shane Bieber.

Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) for Toronto’s new star, it seemed like all sorts of people couldn’t get past his surname being the same as Canadian pop star Justin Bieber.

(And before you go elsewhere to double check, it is on record that there is no relation between the two, with the new Jays player being born in Orange, California.)

Social media was alight with photos of Justin rocking Blue Jays gear.

If you thought you were an original making this joke, well, you might have to try again.

Seriously, there were so many tweets just with this one picture of Justin in a red Canada Day Jays jersey.

While Justin’s worn thousands of outfits since his skyrocket to fame, there are only a few photos of him rocking Blue Jays gear. And you can bet that it will be milked as much as possible in the coming weeks and months, or at least until his next trip to the Rogers Centre.

And yes, the Blue Jays themselves got in on the joke, with the Raptors also playing along in the replies.

A few others pivoted to realizing what a great business opportunity the new trade could be for the Jays, with Bieber’s jersey likely going to be a quick seller in Toronto.

Others kept it to the music only, making jokes about some of Bieber’s best-known lyrics.

While we don’t know exactly how Bieber will perform on the mound during his time in Toronto, we can bet that all eyes (and ears) will be tuned in to see what his star power is like.
