Top Blue Jays prospect will play games in Vancouver after latest promotion
Vancouver baseball fans will be getting an up-close look at the future of the Toronto Blue Jays soon.
The Jays may be on a bit of a run in the major leagues of late, but excitement around the team is waning as they sit outside a playoff spot in early August. Toronto opted to buy and sell at last week’s trade deadline, but the majority of moves seemed to have a focus on next season rather than right now.
It’s likely that some of the fan attention will instead turn to the Blue Jays’ prospect system, where shortstop JoJo Parker just recently earned a promotion that Vancouver fans will be happy about.
According to a report from MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson on Saturday, Parker has been promoted to High-A and will join the Vancouver Canadians for the first time.

Toronto’s top prospect just turned 20 on Saturday and has been absolutely tearing it up with the Dunedin Blue Jays in Single-A. In Parker’s first pro season, he has 66 RBIs and 13 home runs in 87 games with Dunedin.
His current hot streak has seen Parker nab hits in eight straight games, with four home runs, 15 RBIs, and a batting average of .441 over that span.

Originally drafted eighth overall by the Blue Jays during last year’s MLB draft, Parker is quickly jumping up in Toronto’s system.
A bit of a path was cleared for Parker’s ascension at the deadline, as the Jays opted to trade their number-two prospect, shortstop Arjun Nimmala, in the JosĆ© Soriano deal with the LA Angels. Making that move signalled that the team was going all-in on Parker at the position moving forward.
Parker still has a little bit to go before making his MLB debut, as stints with the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats and Triple-A Buffalo Bisons are likely in the cards first.
It’s been quite an exciting year for Vancouver baseball fans following the Canadians. Earlier this year, fans at the Nat got a rare glimpse of future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer on the mound as he rehabbed an injury.
With Parker’s arrival, Canadians fans will get an early glimpse at a big part of Toronto’s future moving forward.
