5 spots you might not know about in New Westminster

With so much development in the area, including the Bosa Properties’ new development RiverSky’s grand opening last weekend, we wanted to find out more about this hot community and why developers and buyers are choosing New Westminster.

This River Market area offers one of the most affordable waterfront living options and we wanted to learn more about what the neighbourhood has to offer.

Here are the top 5 spots you may not have known about.

Antique Alley – 609 Front Street

Right along the train tracks on Front Street, on one side you have the Fraser River and on the other side you’ll find a row of hidden gem antique stores. These boutiques are filled with all types vintage finds for your home or office.

Fun fact: film industry professionals often check out these shops while looking for props for their upcoming shows.

Old Crow Coffee Co – 655 Front Street

This is a brand new local coffee spot that you’ll want to make a special stop for. The atmosphere is relaxing with unbeatable views. You’ll want to find some time to relax and enjoy your favourite drink.

Steel & Oak – 1319 Third Avenue

In addition to the “brewery boom” in Mount Pleasant, Steel and Oak is a short and convenient walk from the Columbia Skytrain station in New West. Their tasting room features seven beers on tap but also a special rotating test tap, if you’re feeling adventurous.

Brick and Mortar – 52 Sixth Street

This is a definite must see in New West. A store filled with work by local artisans and some of the most unique gift and cool home décor. The warm atmosphere is only supported by their store mascot Begbie (named after Judge Begbie).

Sixth Street Pop Up – 42 Sixth Street

Just down the street from Brick & Mortar, you’ll find this sweet spot featuring different designers for two to three weeks at a time. This is a rotating gallery of sorts and is a perfect stop every time you’re in New West. You can almost always guarantee a different selection with each visit. Grand opening is on April 9.
