Vancouverites love spoiling their pets, and Halloween is no exception.
In its 2013 Halloween shopping survey, Value Village said Canadians pet owners planned to spend $28 to outfit their four-legged buddy this Halloween.
And this year 39 per cent of pet owners reported that they’d dress up their furry friends for Halloween.
Vancity Buzz went to the city’s top pet retailers to check out what’s hot this year for pet costumes. Here are my favourite, in no particular order:
1. Bumble Bee
Buzzing his way into trick-or-treaters hearts. Costume from Barking Babies.
2. Pumpkin Pooch
A seasonal favourite. Who needs a pumpkin-spice latte when you’ve got this guy around? Costume from Barking Babies.
3. Owl
A “wise” choice for the fashion-forward pup. From home décor to knick-knacks, owls are all the rage these days. Barking Babies attire.
4. Sea captain
For the nautical dog, this one’s a real West Coast favourite. Costume from Barking Babies.
5. Pirate
This lil dude could totally capture the high seas, along with ladies’ hearts. Costume from Barking Babies.
6. BC Lions super fan
The purr-fect fan. Costume courtesy Bone & Bowl.
7. Hot dog
Foodies will love this versatile bun design. Works for dogs and also cats. Costumes from Barking Babies and Bone & Bowl.
8. Dog Hefner
A real dog with the ladies. Pet owners will adore the hilarious look of this smoking jacket.
9. Franken-pug
Spooky, scary, pretty rad. Costume from Barking Babies.
10. Crocodile
Other canines will be green with envy when they see your pooch decked out in this. Barking Babies costume.
11. Canucks fan
Because pride for the hometown team isn’t limited to humans. Cat costume from Bone & Bowl, dog shirt from NHL team store at Rogers Arena.
12. Lil jockey

14. Monkey on Back
This stylin’ Frenchie is actually named Monkey, so it’s a great costume choice for this wee one. Bone & Bowl costume.
15. Koala
I wish they had a human-sized costume to match. Costume from Barking Babies.
Costumes from Barking Babies retail for $19.99 to $35, while Bone & Bowl’s retail for $19.99 and up. Both retailers are telling pet owners to get theirs early – because they will likely sell out. The Canucks gear is for sale at the NHL team store at Rogers Arena.
Tweet your best dog costume photos to @darcynews — and I’ll use for a future post.
