Tomas Vokoun Signs with Pittsburgh

Dec 19 2017, 1:48 pm

After a dismal season in Washington, Tomas Vokoun has opted for a change of scenery; he has taken a 2-year $4 million dollar deal in Pittsburgh to play between the pipes alongside Marc-Andre Fleury. For Canucks fans, this provides a bit of insight into the Luongo trade rumors.

If Brian Burke isn’t shopping for Luongo right now, he is quickly running out of options. Vokoun is off the market, Tim Thomas is threatening to take a season off, and L.A.’s Jonathan Bernier will be hotly contested by Tampa Bay (although he still remains an unproven commodity).

The Leafs were 29th in goals against last season (264 scored against) and clearly something has to be done to rectify the gaping hole in the net. Toronto needs a proven goaltender who can pull them out of their funk before Burke loses his job after 5 playoff-less years in Toronto, and it doesn’t seeem out of the question that Roberto Luongo could be that guy.

The Luongo to Toronto trade rumors are making more sense by the minute.
