
Health Canada has issued a recall on a three-drawer chest made by a Quebec based furniture company following the death of toddler.
According to South Shore Furniture Ltd., the now-recalled product tipped over and killed a two-year old child in the United States and injured another.

There were 6,930 units sold in Canada and 315,600 sold in the US and Mexico between 2009 and 2018, according to Health Canada, the majority through online retailers Amazon and Walmart.

Nine different models, ranging from different colours, are included in the recall. Some dressers have been sold as part of a bedroom set. Details on affected model numbers are available online.
Consumers who purchased the dresser are recommended to contact the company to receive a free repair kit or a refund.
“Consumers should immediately stop using any recalled chest that is not properly anchored to the wall, and place it in an area that children cannot access,” reads the South Shore Furniture statement. “Consumers should contact South Shore to select one of the following recall options: Consumers can receive a free tip-over restraint kit and can request a one-time free in-home installation of the kit.”

The Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, resold or given away in the entire country.
