Tim Hortons plans to open 1,000 patios across the country by early July, following public health requirements to operate outdoor dining spaces safely.

The company’s announcement comes as provinces all across Canada prepare, in differing ways appropriate to regional circumstances, to reopen some operations paused by the pandemic.

ā€œTim Hortons is ready to welcome guests back to our patios and we are quickly expanding the number of patios we offer across Canada,ā€ Tim Hortons Chief Operating Officer Mike Hancock said in a release.

ā€œIn the coming weeks, we are reopening more than 350 existing patios in Ontario and plan to significantly expand this number. Overall, we are planning to open upwards of 1,000 new patios across Canada by transforming existing outdoor spaces.”

Across the country, Tim Hortons is reportedly seeking opportunities to reopen and expand patio spaces to safely serve guests.

Existing outdoor areas, under-utilized parking spaces, or blocked off laneways will be considered in consultation with local municipalities, the coffee purveyor says.

Throughout the pandemic, Tim Hortons has shifted its standard mode of operations in order to continue serving customers, where possible, while working to maintain staff and patron safety.

More than 400 locations along major highways in Canada have remained open to provide food and drink service to truck drivers, with washrooms being sanitizedĀ at leastĀ every 15 minutes.

In April, the company mandated staff wear masks, and rolled out temperature checks across the country, to limit the spread of coronavirus.
