A display of knock-off Tim Hortons instant coffee packs was spotted in South Korea by a vigilant Canadian.

Mike Elgar posted the photo of the yellow packaged “Tim Mortons” Mocha Gold Coffee Mix to his Instagram account on August 9.

The iconic red italic lettering is almost identical to the Tim Hortons logo.

The company’s Director of Public Affairs Michelle Robichaud told Vancity Buzz in an email that they will take the necessary steps to protect their trademarks, although she didn’t specify what action they will take.

While we’re thrilled to see that the Tim Hortons brand is loved and recognized around the world, we’re always vigilant when it comes to protecting our intellectual property, especially as we expand internationally,” she said.

“Our logo is representative of our commitment to quality, so even though we are not currently doing business in South Korea, we will continue to take the necessary steps to protect our trademarks.”

The well-known Canadian chain has expanded into the United States, but has yet to enter the South Korean market.
