Win 2 tickets to ride in the Hendrick’s Gin hot air balloon (CONTEST)

While making history elevating skyward in a 65-foot hot air balloon adorned with roses and cucumbers may sound like a scene from a movie or reality show, we assure you this is real. Alas, there is still a way that you can experience this magic for yourself, right here in Vancouver!

This August, Hendrick’s Gin, the super-premium, handcrafted and small-batch gin which is famous for being unusually infused with rose and cucumber, will elevate the city’s much-loved Honda Celebration of Light with its ocular and auditory spectacle. For the first time, Hendrick’s Gin will debut its 65-foot A.W.E.V.A.N.A.I.R. (the Amazing, Whimsical, Enchanting, Voyaging, Astounding, Nocturnal, Ascending, Interstellar, Roamer) hot air balloon in Vancouver on August 2 and 3 from the steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery.

The magical voyage of the A.W.E.V.A.N.A.I.R. hot air balloon marks the first time the Honda Celebration of Light will be extending its festivities from English Bay to the streets of Downtown Vancouver.

Adorned with an array of cucumbers and roses, the hot air balloon will depart from the steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery and guests will journey to an unconventional height into the sky to observe the city from a view usually only reserved for our favourite feathered friends.

Wondering how high the hot air balloon will be flying? We can tell you that it’s going to be at an altitude of 44 ¼ cucumbers into the skies of Vancouver (you can work out the math for yourself).

Hendrick’s Gin is offering curious Vancouverites chances to win pairs of Golden Tickets onsite for a ride on the A.W.E.V.A.N.A.I.R. on August 2 or 3. Flights will take place between 6 pm and 11 pm, depending on wind patterns, and as long as you have a Golden Ticket, you’ll have the chance to fly.

Should good fortune not shine upon you in advance or onsite, don’t despair! The Hendrick’s Gin Air Departure Lounge will be open to the public, so you can visit whether you’ve won a ticket or not. Inside, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the wonders of the Portal of Peculiarity and be treated to Hendrick’s Gin and Tonics served in the world’s smallest Hendrick’s teacups. These libations will be garnished with sliced cucumbers, of course.

The one-of-a-kind jazz C.O.R.G.A.N. (aka the Cucumber Organ of Remarkably Glorious Auditory Nirvana) will also be making its debut for the first time on the West Coast. This unique instrument is made up of 49 whole cucumbers that create awe-inspiring sounds, which will make the perfect soundtrack for you to enjoy your cucumber-garnished Hendrick’s G&T.
