Ticket prices nosedive for FIFA World Cup knockout game at BC Place

For a fleeting moment, it looked like Canada was going to call BC Place home for the majority of the FIFA World Cup.
Then, the Swiss came along and put a stop to Canada’s home-advantage dreams.
After beating Canada 2-1 in their final group stage game last Wednesday, Switzerland will instead play a knockout stage game at BC Place on July 2. Canada will battle South Africa in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 28.
While ticket prices plummeted for Canada’s knockout stage game in Los Angeles, the same has also been true for Switzerland’s do-or-die game on July 2.
Ticket prices for the Round of 32 match at BC Place have been on a roller coaster ride over the past week. After Canada whooped Qatar 6-0 last Thursday, ticket prices spiked as the host nation was in the driver’s seat to play a Round of 32 game at BC Place.

According to TicketData, the get-in price for the BC Place Round of 32 match was C$1,334 on the morning before Canada played Qatar.
The following morning, after Canada’s emphatic win, the average get-in price spiked to C$1,709.
Ticket prices for the match climbed as high as C$2,352 (for the get-in price) before Canada faced Switzerland last Wednesday.
Following their nail-biter of a loss, ticket prices have nosedived.
The get-in price for Switzerland’s knockout game at BC Place is now just $840, according to Ticket Data. That’s a 64 per cent decrease from the peak of get-in prices.
On FIFA’s ticket portal, the cheapest ticket is available for C$799 as of Saturday morning.
Ironically, both Canada’s knockout game in Los Angeles and Switzerland’s match on July 2 are the cheapest Round of 32 games in the entire FIFA World Cup.

Canada’s match against South Africa and Switzerland’s contest at BC Place are the only Round of 32 games where fans can get tickets for under C$1,000.
The most expensive match is Mexico’s Round of 32 contest, which they’ll get to play in Mexico City. The get-in price is over C$4,000.
While Switzerland’s opponent isn’t locked in, it will most likely be Iran.
