Three men arrested for playing phony police officers to scam Asian tourists of their money

Dec 19 2017, 8:09 pm

Vancouver Police have arrested three men for allegedly disguising themselves as phony police officers to steal money from Asian tourists.

There have been 13 incidents since September 17, with two men identifying themselves as police officers and showing tourists a fake badge. An Asian man also played along with the two fake officers by posing as a ‘victim’ and encouraged the tourists to hand over their wallets and passports.

After a few minutes, the ‘officers’ returned the items to the victims, who later realize their money is missing.

Police say all incidents took place in tourist destinations throughout downtown Vancouver.

Police will be recommending charges of theft and impersonating a police officer against the trio of police imposters.

Anyone with information about these thefts is asked to call the Vancouver Police non-emergency number at 604-717-3321.
