Surrey has recorded its 31st shooting since the start of the year and third incident to occur within a 42 hour time span.
Earlier this afternoon just before 2 p.m., RCMP were deployed to the area of 86A Avenue and 140th Street after receiving reports of shots being fired within the vicinity. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a male suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
“Officers are speaking to several witnesses at the scene and continue to collect further evidence and canvas the area for additional information,” reads a statement by RCMP.
“There is no suspect description available at this time. The investigation is still in its early stages, but initial indications are that this is a targeted incident.”
Anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers’ anonymous hotline at 1-800-222-8477.
This comes just days after Surrey RCMP made public that there have been over two dozen shootings in the municipality since the start of the year. In a news conference on Friday, RCMP appealed to the public to come forward to police if they know anyone involved in the drug trade.
The 29th shooting occurred on Saturday evening while the 30th shooting took place in broad daylight late Sunday afternoon.
