10 things to do in Vancouver this weekend

Shipyards Night Market

  • What: A vibrant gathering focused on local artisans, bakers, farmers, along with an array of artisans and vendors. There will be plenty of food trucks and other prepared eats, as well as a Beer Garden (for those 19+) and live music.
  • Where: Shipbuilders’ Square, 138 Victory Ship Way, North Vancouver
  • When: Every Friday May 1 to September 25; 5 to 10 p.m.

Hiring Happy Hour

  • What: A hiring event featuring companies including United Front Games, E-Link Entertainment, IUGO Mobile Entertainment, Fathom Interactive, I Got Games, A Thinking Ape, East Side Games, Hothead Games, Roadhouse Interactive, Bandai Namco, Relic and BlueBat Games.
  • Where: The Portside Pub – 7 Alexander St., Vancouver
  • When: Friday, May 1; 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Commercial Drive Street Party

  • What: Come by for some loud music, dancing and good times at the first ever Commercial Drive Street Party.

Eat! Vancouver at BC Place

  • What: Capping off the expanded events of EAT! Vancouver’s week-long culinary festival is the three-day tasting event and expo at BC Place. This year’s lineup includes a host of fun experiences and special programming sure to entice many of Vancouver’s enthusiastic food lovers.

Vancouver Police Department Recovered Goods Auction

  • What: The Vancouver Police Department holds its annual auction of stolen or recovered goods, including bikes, electronics, sporting goods, jewellery, appliances and more.

Free Comic Book Day

  • What: Comic book shops around Vancouver will be giving out free comic books to anyone who walks through their doors in celebration of the international Free Comic Book Day.

OneRepublic at Rogers Arena

  • What: The band OneRepublic brings their Native Tour to Vancouver, featuring hits like “Counting Stars”, “I Lived” and “If I Lose Myself”.

  • When: Saturday, May 2; 7:30 p.m.

BMO Vancouver Marathon

  • What: Marathon, new Marathon Relay, Half Marathon and 8 km races take place on Sunday, May 3, finishing at an exciting downtown Finish Line and Street Festival.

Vancouver Wheelmen 5th Annual Vintage Bike Swap

  • What: Vancouver Wheelmen Vintage Bicycle Club presents the 5th Annual Vintage Bike Swap. Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned rider, come on down to buy or swap an old bike.

The Happy Show

  • What: One of the largest exhibitions in MOV’s 120-year history, this astonishing experience transcends the boundary between art and design. It takes over museum galleries and in-between spaces-stairwells, hallways, and restrooms-in order to ask: what makes us happy?
