Verses Festival of Words

  • What: Versus is billed as “Canada’s largest alternative literary festival,” and will showcase over 30 events across East Vancouver. The power of words is on prime display here, especially ones used to “support, provoke, protest and inspire.” Perhaps most important this year is the Black Lives Matter Showcase, commemorating the achievements of Vancouver’s local chapter in calling for an end to police brutality worldwide.

Funny Music Weirdo

  • What: Chase Padgett, creator and star of 6 Guitars and Nashville Hurricane, swings for the fences with an hour of comedy showcasing music, characters, stories, and his own personal take on why Crossfit is cruel and unusual punishment.

Tri-Cities Healthy Kids Fair

  • What: Community organizations will provide parents of children 0 – 6 years with information on safety, health, literacy awareness, recreation and other community programs.

  • When: April 20 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm
  • Admission: Free, non-perishable items are being accepted for the local food bank.

  • What: The biggest cannabis celebration of the year. Featuring the world’s only open-air public cannabis market where people sell all kinds of cannabis and extracts while educating the crowd about medical marijuana, political involvement, activism, and more.

Beaty Nocturnal: Hops

  • What: Every month, Beaty Biodiversity Museum stays open late to offer family-friendly activities. This month’s event is presented in partnership with Big Rock Brewing, and includes a special botanical presentation about every beer drinker’s favourite plant, the Humulus lupulus, also known as hops.
