December is underway and there are many exciting events happening around Burnaby. From a Carol Ships celebration to Winter Concerts and more, here is our checklist of 10 things to do around the city this month.

Live at the Gallery Seasonal Celebration

  • What: ​An evening of fun, food and amazing music to celebrate the season. Featuring musicians Bradley Barhman and Joel MacKenzie. Event is hosted by the Burnaby Arts Council.

Carol Ships Parade of Lights

Carol ship/Harbour Cruises

  • What: Come to Barnet Marine Park and watch the flotilla of carol ships sail past. The ships are expected to sail by between 8 to 8:30 pm, times may vary depending on weather please come early to avoid missing the ships. Drink concession will be available, weather permitting from 6:30 to 9 pm.

Seasonal Celebration at Shadbolt Centre

  • What: Celebrate the festive season through arts, entertainment, culture and food.

TableTutors Tables & Toy Drive Open House

  • What: Student Performances, prize giveaways, raffles, workshops, food and more. Hosted by DJ Flipout. Please bring an unwrapped toy for donation for BC Children’s Hospital

Building Bridges among East Asian Canadians: How Does Racism Affect Us

  • What: Foster intercommunity relations through panel discussions, dialogues and the sharing of historical perspectives among different East Asian Canadian communities.

Knit2gether at McGill

  • What: Come show off your projects and share in the fun of making something new.  Spend a couple of hours knitting, crocheting, stitching and chatting with like-minded people. Bring your yarn and needles, scissors, and supplies and get started! A limited number of needles and yarn is available for those who want to give knitting or crocheting a try.

A Night to Remember—Winter Concert

  • What: A masquerade event filled with magic and warm memories! Featuring performances from SFU Peak Frequency, with light refreshments provided.

Christmas Carols Sing-Along at Tommy Douglas

  • What: Get a little holiday cheer and join in a sing-along of favourite Christmas carols. Songs will be led by a librarian, and accompanied on keyboard. The more people who can sing along, the merrier.

Ugly Christmas Sweater Toonie Skate

  • What: ​Bring family, friends and your finest Ugly Christmas Sweater for a holiday toonie skate. Featuring crafts, face painting, reindeer games, and a visit from Santa and friends.

Heritage Christmas

Bright in Burnaby/Burnaby Village Museum

  • What: ​Heritage Christmas with old-fashioned fun. Special entertainment is scheduled throughout the season including theatre performances, community choirs, street characters and musicians.
  • When: Now to January 5, 2017
  • Time: Now to December 15: Monday to Friday 1 to 5:30pm, Saturdays and Sundays 1 to 9 pm; December 16 to January 5: daily  1 to 9 pm (closed December 24 and 25)
