Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS), the iconic Vancouver tradition set in Stanley Park, has revealed the two musicals taking place this summer at Malkin Bowl, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Singin’ in the Rain (SITR). The 64th season kicked-off on July 9 with the two shows alternating nightly until August 21. As always Vancity Buzz has a 2 pairs of tickets to giveaway.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was written by the acclaimed team of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. The musical is now one of the most popular world-wide and many notable performers have performed in Joseph including former teen idol Donny Osmond, who played the title role in the 1990s. The musical is based on the Biblical story of Joseph, found in the Book of Genesis. Joseph’s elaborate coat is given to him by his father, leading to jealousy amongst his eleven brothers. His life profoundly changes when he realizes his ability to interpret dreams.
Singin’ in the Rain is a musical production based on the 1952 MGM comedy musical of the same name. Written by Betty Comden and Adolph Green with songs by Nacio Herb Brown and Arthur Freed, it combines impressive dance numbers with hysterical comedy. The story offers a humourous depiction of Hollywood as it shifts from silent films to “talkies.”
