The Roof at Black + Blue opened in April 2013 and within months, they landed on various Best Patios lists such as Eater and Toro. With most Vancouver patios, once the winter season starts, the chairs and tables are put away, but not here! With a retractable roof and roaring fireplaces, once you step into the room, you’d never know that it was winter outside. This past weekend, a few of us were invited to try out the new Fall Menu for their Weekend Brunch.
One of my favourties of the tasting was the Roof Hash. Loaded with three types of meat (short ribs, bacon and chorizo), as well as peppers, this dish is super hearty with the addition of poached eggs and a creamy hollandaise sauce.
Another classic brunch item with a twist is their Black + Blue Benny. Sitting on top of a grilled baguette instead of an English muffin, you have a layer of prosciutto, a perfectly poached egg drizzled with hollandaise and topped with Dungeness Crabmeat.
One item that’s made for sharing is their Breakfast Flatbread. It’s topped with bacon and lightly scrambled eggs, as well as chunky potatoes and baby tomatoes. A duo of cheeses (white cheddar and mozza) holds it all together. The crust has a nice chew adn is nicely blistered too, just how I like it.
Take a look at the amazing ingredients for their two other egg dishes, the Smoked Salmon Omelette and the Mushroom Frittata. The omelette is filled with asparagus and burrata while the frittata is loaded with grilled mushrooms and caramelized onions.
For those of you with a sweet tooth, please give their Stuffed French Toast a try. I was pretty stuffed myself after this meal, but I just couldn’t resist! I’m not normally a dessert fan but the aroma of this dish was too tempting. The bread is not only dipped in egg and fried, they load up the middle with a mascarpone cheese and blueberry filling. Oh, and then there’s the white chocolate to take it over the top.
