While looking for ways to help the community this year, for once I am in a position that I can, I came across the Empty Stocking Fund. The annual program, run by The Province newspaper, is a service that raises funds for local charities during the holidays.
Articles in the feature range from local charities that support the community, to actual people who make a difference in their communities. The Empty Stocking Fund is currently in its 94th year, which makes it the longest running newspaper charity in Canada. In 2011, they raised just under $400,000. This year, through the help and support of the community, they are hoping to surpass that previous total.
Unlike other charities, the Empty Stocking Funds’ “administration costs” are covered by The Province. I don’t say that to try to take away from other charities, it is just nice to know that ALL the money you donate goes to the cause you are supporting.
If you want to donate to the Empty Stocking Fund this year, you can head over to the online donations page HERE.
It is likely the easiest way to turn that lump of coal you were going to get into an actual gift…I’m looking at YOU Karm.
