The Power of Art and Music: A Benefit For Ugandan Youth
On November 29th, local Vancouver musicians and artists will donate their music and their art towards raising money for the Bavubuka Foundation.
We all know that music and art has the power to inspire and connect people and Bavubuka provides tools, teachers and mentors in a safe place for Ugandan youth to learn and develop a positive future for communities across Uganda. Join rising star Carly Rae Jepsen, acclaimed visual artist Taka Sudo and many more amazing performers and artists for a great night of music and art. A small contribution to our efforts will help to create a new vision of hope through creative arts in Uganda. 100% ticket, donation and sponsorship proceeds, and 50% of all artwork sold will go to the Bavubuka Foundation.
Over the past twenty years as a result of civil war, rebel armies have murdered, abducted, tortured or sold into slavery thousands of Ugandans, many of which were children. In just the last few years, the region has stabilized, however Uganda now has a critical need for programs that unite communities and create positive growth for the future. Today’s Uganda sees over 69% of the population under the age of 25, 32.2% of youth unemployment and only 15% of youth enrolled in secondary education. It is with their future in mind that the Bavubuka Foundation is committed to working on empowering and uniting youth through art and music in order to create a stable and peaceful future for Uganda.
Musicial performers such as Carly Rae Jepsen , Quest Poetics, Boombox Saints, David Blair and many more will perform short sets throughout the evening including a special performance of “Hallelujah” a song about Africa by Carly Rae Jepsen and Quest Poetics. Visual artists and photographers Taka Sudo, Phresha, Iwona Handley and many more will be donating pieces for the event which will be on display.
