The Pod, a new arts centre for kids opened in East Vancouver last month as Commercial Drive welcomes its newest arts hotspot, but this time it’s for the kids. Perfect timing as with the recent cutback to arts and music programs, parents are faced with the challenge of finding high-quality art programs for their children. Now, parents need to look no further than The Pod.
The Pod is located in the artistic hub of Commercial Drive adjacent to the East Vancouver Cultural Centre (The Cultch), The Pod offers a diverse assortment of inspirational art programs for children aged 4 to 14 years.
The Pod offers classes in painting, collage, textiles, sewing, pottery, and performance-based art, and offers both drop-in classes as well as 8-week structured programs. Through encouraging and supportive instruction, children learn skills and techniques and have fun while creating functional pieces of art. Colorful paintings, hand-made books and tie-dye clothing are some examples of the pieces students are proud to bring home.
The Pod provides parents with a flexible class schedule that will work with any lifestyle. For children aged 4 to 10, daytime and after-school classes are available Tuesday to Saturday. And on Friday evenings, it’s Date Night where parents have the opportunity to go out and enjoy themselves while their children enjoy an art class and a movie. Now that is a great idea!
