The Late Show with Stephen Colbert starts tonight

Dec 20 2017, 1:15 am

Watch Stephen Colbert make television history as he sits behind the legendary desk of David Letterman for the first time, officially beginning his tenure as host of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

For those of you not in the know, Colbert is taking his new post following his departure from the legendarily popular news satire program, The Colbert Report. Framed as an aggressively patriotic and egotistical right wing news program, Colbert lead the show as a fictionalized version of himself, spouting ridiculously ignorant, self-righteous, self-aggrandizing nonsense as the cartoonish Republican host.

Colbert is taking over for late night television legend David Letterman, who hosted the show from 1992, until his retirement in 2015. The first episode will feature actor George Clooney, Republican Presidential candidate Jeb Bush, and musical act Jon Batiste as guests.

When Colbert left Report he brought most of his crew with him to The Late Show. However, The Late Show will prove to be a very different program, and will be the first time in many, many years that Colbert will appear as himself, rather than his egotistical patriotic character.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert premieres tonight, September 8 at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
