Get ready for OK Times with the Okanagan Spring Summer Pack.
If you’re in the mood to go on an adventure this summer and head off the beaten path, let The Great Trail be the reason to explore our home and native land.
Twenty-six years ago, a small group of visionaries had a dream to connect Canada and its people with a multi-use recreational trail.
Stretching almost 24,000 km, it’s the longest trail system in the world and it’s here in our backyard.
The site’s interactive map is incredibly detailed and lets you engage with the trail in an easy and fun way – letting you focus on small stretches of the trail, see photos, and learn about the trail type in that area as well as the history of its build.
Imagine the country’s sites and scenery along this incredible trail, showing off Canada’s best landscapes.
If you need further convincing, here’s what the trail looks like from various points across the country.
Whether you’re venturing out into a local trail or the backcountry, remember to prepare well in advance for the trek, so that you and your party remain safe.
To ensure your safety and well-being when visiting parks, Parks Canada advises to stay on marked trails, abide by trail closure signs, and hike with a friend for increased safety. To avoid hazards, it recommends keeping a safe distance back from slopes, bluffs and river edges.
Here’s a list of 10 outdoor safety items that you can bring on hikes.
