White Rock: The coastal city that needs to be on your radar

Mar 23 2018, 2:49 am

Although we may often take it for granted, living on Canada’s west coast is an amazing experience.

But when you’re caught up in daily city gridlock, waiting in lines at the bank, and counting down the days until the weekend, you start to wonder why you’ve chosen to live in a giant city. Couple this with the ever-increasing cost of real estate and you just end up in a bad mood.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. Under an hour’s drive from Vancouver lies the coastal city of White Rock. Living here allows you to be part of a thriving community, where you know your neighbours by name.

To give you a greater idea of the kind of lifestyle that you can enjoy when living in White Rock, we’ve teamed up with new development Foster Martin to highlight some of the beautiful and unique things you can do there.

Go for a scenic stroll

If you’re an outdoor aficionado, you’ll instantly fall in love with the beauty and tranquility of White Rock. Take a walk along the Promenade or the 1,500 ft. long Pier where you can enjoy vistas of Vancouver Island, the San Juan Islands, and Mount Baker, in the distance. The 18 km Semiahmoo Trails will take you on an adventure through forested areas towards the Nicomekl River. Everything is Instagram-worthy here, so you’ll never get tired of taking snaps when you venture out in White Rock.

Dine at the best local restaurants

When you take an evening off cooking, you want to know that there are fantastic local restaurants at your fingertips. This is 100% the case in White Rock where you can enjoy everything from inventive bistro eats at The Wooden Spoon, European-inspired fare at Uli’s Restaurant, dining al fresco on the patio at The Washington Avenue Grill, steak and seafood at The Cabin, and the classic waterfront restaurant, Charlie Don’t Surf. There’s also the trendy My Shanti by Vikram Vij where you can order up refined Indian fare at discounted rates compared with the celebrity chef’s downtown restaurants.

Take a wildlife tour

White Rock is home to an abundance of wildlife and the best way to catch a glimpse of them is to take a wildlife tour. You can stop by the local Visitor Centre to find out what’s happening and get the best advice as to when you should head out on the water to see Bald Eagles, Orcas, and more. Join a boat tour to fully immerse yourself in the natural beauty of this British Columbian city, or go kayaking close to the shore.

Spend time at the beach

Okay, we know it’s not exactly weather permitting to go tanning on the beach right now. But in a couple of months, it will be, and you’ll want to spend time on White Rock’s sandy Crescent Beach where there’s a stunning walking trail right by the ocean. There’s also the West Beach and East Beach, too, where you can sunbathe, go sailing, go swimming, or even crab fishing.

Not a beach person? No problem, you can easily visit the Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre where you can dive into the Olympic-style indoor pool, access a steam room and a sauna.

You could have all of the above at your doorstep with an address in White Rock. Find out how you can start planning your dream relocation to the city by visiting Foster Martin now.
