Tech Got Talent: Techies go head-to-head in lip-sync battle

When you think techies, what comes to mind? World of Warcraft? Mothers’ basements?

No one would ever suspect those who lurk behind the computer screen to go out in public and lay it all out on the line in an epic lip-syncing battle. But on Wednesday, June 24, the techies of Vancouver are putting away their gadgets and going head-to-head during the Tech Got Talent sing-off at Five Sixty Nightclub in Vancouver.

Online giving platform, Chimp has teamed up with PlentyOfFish to give techies a chance to sing their hearts out for charity. So far 20 online tech start-ups like Vision Critical, HootSuite, Paysavvy and BuildDirect will be showcasing their vocal abilities in front of a panel of judges and a live audience.

The three celebrity judges are David Jorge (Winner, Masterchef Canada Season 2), Robin Reichman (Real Housewives of Vancouver, Season 2) and CTV News Anchor Jason Pires.

All contenders have had to raise at least $1,000 for local charities who support the development of youth in our community. The amount raised thus far is $35,357, more than half way to their $50,000 goal.

Grand Prize lip-sync winner will get to donate $2,500 to a local charity of their choice, first runner up gets $1,500 for a local charity of choice and second runner up, $500 for a local charity of choice.

“We’re looking forward to co-hosting another epic charitable event that will bring the tech community together and create a meaningful, charitable impact to support the next generation of tech talent,” said John Bromley, CEO and Founder of Chimp. “Tech’s Got Talent will see a very different talent shine than what we’re used to seeing from our Vancouver techies.”
