Taste of Yaletown 2014: Yaletown L'Antipasto

Dec 19 2017, 8:27 pm

With a menu designed to showcase the restaurants signature authentic Italian dishes, Yaletown L’Antipasto is ready to greet Taste of Yaletown 2014 diners in their cozy, inviting tapas eatery.

Yaletown L’Antipasto has selected some of their most popular dishes as part of their three-course $35 prix fixe menu, which will be available to diners from October 16 to 30 as part of the annual Taste of Yaletown event. This is the second consecutive year the two-and-a-half year-old Italian restaurant is participating in TOY.

To get the meal started, Yaletown L’Antipasto offers TOY diners their choice of three appetizers. The Insalata di Celeste is punctuated with tart dried cranberries, earthy almond slivers, and creamy Okanagan chevre atop spring greens and a balsamic vinaigrette. Another strong option is their tuna carpaccio, which is a thick loin cut that’s house-cured with smoky espresso and lemon. The standout choice, though, is their beef tenderloin carpaccio, with its rosy-red and impossibly then slices of Albertan beef that melt in your mouth.

For main courses, Yaletown L’Antipasto’s hearty pasta offerings shine. Their seafood risotto achieves a remarkable depth of flavour and spice and is studded with supple shellfish. A mixed meat ragu bolsters ribbons of tomato-sauce slick egg noodles in the Pappardelle Rosse for an entree that is deceptively light, despite it satisfying a cold-weather craving for hearty pasta.

Seafood is at the heart of the Ravioli all Filly, with the pasta pouches packed with lobster and crab, topped with prawns and tomato sauce, and served with peppery arugula to round out the richness.

However, if you are looking for a rich, decadent main course, Yaletown L’Antipasto’s fourth selection is their gnocchi, which is served in an indulgent cheese sauce made of crème fraîche, grana padano, Okanagan chevre, and gorgonzola.

Your best bet, if you want to make the most of the meal, is to take the restaurant’s tapas-style sensibilities to heart and order differently from your companions, and divvy them up. At a table for two? Go for the risotto and the pappardelle to really taste the chef’s range with pasta.

Because Taste of Yaletown lets diners feast affordably, saving room for dessert is already on order. For TOY, Yaletown L’Antipasto offers diners their choice of either Lavender Crème Brulee, Vanilla Panna Cotta, or Tiramisu.
