One of Vancouver’s most popular food trucks, Tacofino, is prepping to open their permanent restaurant in Gastown.

Tacofino’s much-anticipated Gastown location is poised to open up in early January.

Located in Blood Alley (in the home of the former Pig & Whistle), Tacofino’s second Vancouver brick-and-mortar eatery is a 3,000-sqaure foot restored heritage space that boasts a large patio area.

The main entrance puts customers in an 80-seat dining room with a 20-seat bar, where Tacofino can showcase not only a set of eight taps for local beers, but also tequila and mezcal cocktails, along with imported Mexican brews. Diners can kick back in a space designed to reflect the chill vibes of a beach hangout, with a sense of eternal surf and sun.

To preserve the casual cool of ordering up a mess of tacos from a truck window, the Gastown Tacofino will have a separate entrance at 15 West Cordova that will serve things up grab-and-go style.

No matter which way you go, you’ll be able to get your hands on Tacofino’s signature tacos and burritos. “We’re looking forward to showcasing our new space and unveiling an expanded menu that will offer Tacofino favourites alongside some new and imaginative dishes and share plates,” says Tacofino’s co-founder, Kaeli Robinsong.

Robinsong and Jason Sussman are the team who first launched the Tacofino truck in 2009 in Tofino, and have since grown the brand to include four trucks and three restaurants with a loyal following.
