Police have deemed an early Saturday morning fire near the south end of the Pattullo Bridge as suspicious.

According to Surrey RCMP, local firefighters were called to the 12400 block of 113B Avenue at approximately 5:10 a.m. to fight a vehicle fire that had spread to a house.

Fortunately, the fire in both the vehicle and residence were extinguished quickly. The vehicle was destroyed by the blaze, and the residence only sustained minor damage.

“The fire had apparently spread from the vehicle to the exterior of the residence from exposure from the vehicle fire,” reads a statement by police. “The fire appears to be suspicious in nature, and the exact cause is presently unknown.”

The investigation is still in its early stages. Police want to speak to anyone who witnessed the fire or saw suspicious activity in the area before or after the incident, including individuals near the vehicle and residence or fleeing the area after the fire began.

Anyone who may have information that could assist investigators is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers’ anonymous hotline at 1-800-222-8477.
