Suspect sought following Surrey sexual assault

Surrey RCMP are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a sexual assault.

On Sunday, January 5, 2014, between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm, a 25 year old Surrey woman was physically and sexually assaulted in the Fleetwood Park area in the 15700 block of 80th Avenue in Surrey, while walking home from a local restaurant.

The unknown male suspect initially approached the victim on the sidewalk near the intersection of 158 Street and 80 Avenue. The victim was then taken to a nearby baseball field in Fleetwood Park where the sexual assault occurred.

The suspect is described as a pale skinned male, 25-35 years old, 6’ tall, with a gaunt face, deep set facial features, prominent high cheekbones and no facial hair. He was wearing black soccer style track pants, possibly Adidas brand, with white stripes running down the outside of the left leg. He was also wearing a baggie, oversized dark (possibly navy colored) hoodie and black sneakers with white soles.

This is believed to be an isolated incident at this time.

Surrey RCMP is actively seeking witnesses to this crime and looking for any information that may help to identify the suspect. A composite sketch is provided in this media release. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and ask for GIS or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 to report anonymously.

Surrey RCMP is reminding the public to be vigilant about their surroundings and offer some safety tips when out in the community:

  • Walk with a friend whenever possible
  • Avoid using earbuds/headphones when walking
  • Stay in well-lit areas
  • Keep your head up and don’t get distracted by your cell phone.
