Four people fell ill on Surrey bus after possible hazmat situation

The Surrey RCMP say four people fell ill on a bus yesterday morning in what they’re calling a suspicious possible hazmat situation.

A BC Transit bus was stopped at 96th Avenue and King George boulevard after the passengers said they weren’t feeling well at around 11:50 a.m. on Sunday. Emergency crews were contacted and the Surrey Fire Department Hazmat Team, EHS, Metro Vancouver, Transit Police, and Surrey RCMP all arrived on scene.

Initial witness accounts suggested the sick bus patrons may have been exposed to an “unknown substance,” according to the RCMP, but subsequent checks found no evidence of hazardous materials. The four passengers were treated and released on scene.

Metro Vancouver Transit Police are now investigating and any further updates will be provided by them.
